JUST IN: Labour Party suspends Otti, Nwokocha, Kingibe, others

The Labour Party has suspended six top members, including Abia Governor Alex Otti and Senators Ireti Kingibe and Darlington Nwokocha. Others suspended include Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowumi. The suspension takes immediate effect and bans them from all party activities indefinitely.

The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) acted on recommendations from a disciplinary committee formed on May 2, 2025.

Five-Man Committee Investigated Allegations

National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim signed the statement confirming the disciplinary action on Wednesday. The five-man committee, led by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, investigated allegations of anti-party conduct. The NEC reviewed the committee’s report and ratified the suspension of the six members after extensive deliberation. Party officials emphasized that the suspension aligns with powers granted under the Labour Party constitution.

Nenadi Usman Not Suspended—She’s Not a Member

The Labour Party clarified that Nenadi Usman was not suspended because she is not a registered party member. Usman supports the party’s 2023 presidential candidate as a member of the Obidient Support Group. The party said it won’t sanction non-members, no matter their influence or affiliation. It also accused Usman of lacking credibility to speak on corruption matters.

The Labour Party cited Usman’s alleged plea bargain with the EFCC and her forfeited assets as reasons for distrust. Officials questioned how she acquired properties, a radio station, and companies in Nigeria and Cameroon.

“She lacks the moral capacity to comment on corruption,” the statement said.

The party stated it would not join any political alliance or merger before the 2027 general elections.

“Labour Party will contest the 2027 election independently,” the NEC said firmly.

The statement ended all speculation about possible coalitions with other parties.
